Royce Heslep

Mr. Royce C. Heslep is co-founder and CEO of Aptia Systems, Inc. Aptia Systems is a Houston based Texas Corporation that provides custom software development services to improve business processes. The company has developed innovative applications for medical research, safety, emergency response, training, asset management, and supply chain management. Aptia Systems is a Microsoft Certified Gold Partner. The company has won numerous awards. It has been a Fast Tech 50 Winner, A Better Business Bureau Winner of Quality and Excellence for 5 consecutive years. It has also been recognized by Houston West Chamber of Commerce as STAR winner for exceptional business performance. Aptia is a client company of the Houston Technology Center, a business accelerator and the largest technology business incubator in Texas.

Prior to co-founding Aptia Systems in 2002, Royce had his own consulting practice for 7 years. He served as CFO for several entrepreneurial technology ventures. The ventures included computer networks, software development, and internet services. He assisted in the areas of strategic planning, financial modeling, corporate governance, raising capital, and accounting.

Mr. Heslep began his career in corporate finance working for Fortune 1000 companies, American International Group and Global Marine Inc. He has held positions in the areas of financial analysis, budgeting, cash management, corporate planning, accounting, corporate finance and human resources. He was also a Controller for Law Engineering and Environmental Services, an international consulting firm. At Law Engineering he helped launch several operations, assisted with two acquisitions and a spin-off. Royce also created the company’s first MIS department to improve productivity with computer networks and by developing database tools to streamline work processes.

Mr. Heslep is a native Houstonian, received his BBA from the University of Houston and MBA from the University of St. Thomas. He is currently Vice President of the Houston Entrepreneurs’ Forum. He is also a member of the Houston Technology Center Executive Club, MIT Enterprise Forum, The Entrepreneurship Institute and The Entrepreneurs’ Organization. He was a consultant with the Small Business Development Center, helping clients write business plans and obtain financing. He also served on the advisory board of a business incubator mentoring entrepreneurs in the areas of finance and business development. Royce is also actively involved with his sons in The Boy Scouts of America. Royce and his wife Kathleen, have 3 sons and one daughter. Kathleen has a BBA from Texas A&M University, MBA from the University of Houston and is a Certified Public Accountant.

David Van Camp

Director of Technology

David Van Camp has been with Aptia Systems since June of 2006. Currently the Director of Technology, David has also served as a Senior Developer and Product Manager for Aptia’s Healthcare clients including Baylor College of Medicine and MD Anderson. While at Aptia, David has introduced new development technologies and practices including Silverlight and Agile.

David received Microsoft’s Certified Application Developer certification in 2006.

Before joining Aptia Systems, David worked as an applications developer at Delta Tubular Processing, an oil field tubular products processing company. There, David worked on numerous applications in areas ranging from inventory control, purchasing, and production management.

After graduation in 2001 with a B.S. in Geography, David was hired by the Texas Railroad Commission’s IT Services Division. There David served as a supervisor in the mapping group and was responsible for establishing the initial location database for all oil and gas wells throughout the state.

David and his wife, Stacey Keith Van Camp, have one daughter. Stacey has a B.A. Government and a J.D. from the University of Texas. Stacey is a litigation attorney in the Houston office of Strong Pipkin Bissell and Ledyard, LLP.

Outside of work, David enjoys fishing, billiards, and woodworking.

Director of Business Development

An entrepreneur, Gary has been involved in some of the most dynamic companies to emerge from Houston in the past 20 years.  At Aptia, he is focused on business strategy, company growth and partnerships. He has served in a variety of leadership roles, helping build such notable Houston companies as BindView Development (acquired by Symantec) as Director of Technical Marketing, PentaSafe, Inc. (acquired by NetIQ), of which he was a co-founder and Vice President of Sales and Marketing and as Executive Director of Rice University's Data Application Center (DAC).

More recently he served as Implementation Director for SimDesk Technologies, Inc. and Software Project Lead for Jacob Technology's Engineering and Science Contract Group working with NASA/Johnson Space Center.

Gary is also co-founder of Diamond J Equipment International, a company specializing in international global project management and business development.  He is also a co-founder of Submar West Africa, an international company specializing in the manufacture, sale, distribution and installation of Submar articulated, flexible concrete mats throughout the West Coast of Africa, working with clients such as Exxon/Mobil™, Chevron™ and Shell™.

Before entering the Information Technology industry in 1990, Gary spent 9 years in the United States Air Force working on aircraft electrical and environmental systems.

Gary is also involved with a variety philanthropic, volunteer and cultural pursuits, among these FIRST Robotics Lone Star Regional where he serves as an Ambassador and Safety Advisor, a program that seeks to inspire young people to learn about research, science, teamwork, and collaboration and promotes Gracious Professionalism.  He is involved in BEST Robotics and VEX Robotics as a Judge Advisor.  He serves member and volunteer for the Memorial Park Conservancy.

He has a son and is active in the Boy Scouts of America and Carnegie Vanguard High School.  Non-business pursuits include woodworking, cycling, trail running, and classic movies.
